Illustration of how a call to Downey Apex Plumbing works from first ring to repair

Downey Apex Plumbing is a local plumbing service line for Downey, California and the cities around it. You call one number, any hour, and describe the problem. We help you contain it, explain what is likely wrong, and arrange a plumber to come to your address.

This page explains how that works, what we promise, and what we do not do. We keep it short and plain because plumbing decisions are stressful enough without marketing language on top.

How a Call Works

From the first ring to the repair

1

You call

The line is answered 24 hours a day, every day.

2

We listen

We ask what is happening and help you stop damage.

3

A plumber is arranged

A participating independent plumbing contractor serves your address.

4

Price, then work

You hear the price before the repair begins.

Calls may be answered by an independent plumbing contractor that serves your area, and details of your request are shared with that contractor so they can help you. Names and trademarks of any brands we mention belong to their owners. We say this clearly because you should know who is on the other end of the line.

Working Rules

What we hold ourselves to

The rules we follow on every call

  • 1Diagnose before pricing. A plumber should know what failed before telling you what it costs.
  • 2Price before work. On emergency calls too, you hear the number first.
  • 3Camera before digging. Drain and sewer decisions rest on what the pipe actually shows.
  • 4Smallest fix that will last. We tell you when a repair will not hold and when a bigger job is worth it.
  • 5Code first. Work follows the California Plumbing Code, built on the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), with permits and inspections where the city requires them.
  • 6Plain explanations. If you do not understand why a step is needed, ask, and we will explain it.

Why diagnosis first? Because the most expensive plumbing mistakes start with a guess. A plumber who quotes before looking may sell you a replacement when a cartridge would do, or a cable clearing when the pipe is cracked. We would rather spend ten minutes finding the cause than a day fixing the wrong thing.

Why price before work? Because you should be able to say no. A number given after a repair is a bill, not a quote. On every call, emergency or not, the price comes first and the decision is yours.

Limits

What we do not do

We do not dry out or rebuild water-damaged walls and floors through this line. That is a separate trade from plumbing with its own phone line, described on our restoration after water damage page, and your insurer may have preferred vendors for it. We stop the leak and repair the plumbing, and we tell you what we found so the next contractor can plan around it.

We do not respond to a smell of gas before the gas utility does. If you smell gas, leave the house and call 911 and the utility from outside.

We do not guess prices for work that depends on what is underground or behind a wall. A sewer replacement or a repipe is priced after the inspection.

Licensing

How to verify any plumber you hire

California requires a C-36 plumbing contractor license for most plumbing work. This site does not display a license number, and we do not want you to take anyone's word for it, including ours. Ask the contractor who arrives for their license number, and check it yourself on the Contractors State License Board website before you let anyone open a wall.

The check takes a couple of minutes. It shows whether the license is active, whether a bond is on file, and whether there are public complaints. We recommend it for every contractor you hire, for any kind of work.

Service Area

Where we work

We serve all of Downey, including ZIP codes 90240, 90241, and 90242. We also cover Norwalk, Paramount, South Gate, Pico Rivera, Santa Fe Springs, Bellflower, and Bell Gardens. The City of Downey Water Division supplies the water in Downey, drawing on 20 groundwater wells in the Central Basin with Metropolitan Water District connections in reserve.

Many of the homes in Downey were built in the 1950s. Census-based counts put roughly 13,400 of the city's 36,000 or so homes in that decade. That housing mix shapes the work we see most: aging water heaters, older drain lines, and hard-water scale. You can browse everything we handle on our services page.
